MULTIVERSUS LAUNCHED BY WARNER BROS. GAMES
WARNER BROS. GAMES Officially Releases Free-To-Play Platform Fighter Videogame Across the Globe with More Play Options and an Ever-Expanding Cast of Iconic Warner Bros. Discovery Characters.
With complete cross-play and cross-progression compatibility, Warner Bros. Games today announced the official launch of MultiVersus, a free-to-play platform fighting videogame, for PlayStation®5 (PS5TM) and PlayStation 4 consoles, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One consoles, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store).
MultiVersus is a game developed by Player First Games, with production support and live management provided by Warner Bros. Games San Diego. It features a growing cast of well-known characters based on Warner Bros. Discovery franchises, and as of right now, Season 1: Puns & Villainy adds new playable fighters to the mix, including Agent Smith from The Matrix film series, Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th horror franchise, and Banana Guard from Adventure Time.
A brand-new PvE (Player vs. Environment) mode called Rifts has been added to MultiVersus, providing players with an alternative way to explore the game outside of competitive PvP (Player vs. Player) encounters. The entertaining battles in the game are still set against a variety of redesigned backdrops, such as the recently released new maps that are based on the cartoon programs Dexter’s Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girls.
Warner Bros. Games President David Haddad said, “With the official launch of MultiVersus, we’re offering players a free-to-play gaming experience with a great and growing line-up of iconic Warner Bros. Discovery characters to choose from.” “Our goal is to create a game that is enjoyable and manageable for players of all skill levels, featuring dynamic gameplay features that can be played alone or with friends.”
Game director and co-founder of Player First Games Tony Huynh said, “We couldn’t be more excited to officially launch MultiVersus as a dream project for our team.” With such a large cast of adored characters, we’ve taken great effort to craft a distinctive move set and fighting system for each fighter, giving them a specific feel and appearance. Additionally, we now offer additional options to play MultiVersus with our PvE mode, Rifts, in addition to PvP. This, together with our specially designed rollback netcode to handle online gaming, makes it simpler for all players to have a smooth experience.
The current roster of characters includes Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, and Black Adam; Shaggy and Velma (Scooby-Doo); Bugs Bunny, Tasmanian Devil a.k.a. Taz, and Marvin the Martian (Looney Tunes); Arya Stark (Game of Thrones); Tom & Jerry (Tom and Jerry); Steven Universe and Garnet (Steven Universe); Iron Giant (The Iron Giant), LeBron James (Space Jam: A New Legacy); Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith (Rick and Morty); Gizmo and Stripe (Gremlins); and an incredible original creature named Reindog round out the current roster. Additional fighters will be added as part of upcoming seasonal updates.
There are several ways to play MultiVersus, and it comes with a number of online and local modes when it first releases. Whether playing alone or collaboratively online with a buddy, Rifts offers a PvE experience with boss battles, mini-games, and exclusive prizes. It also provides an opportunity for players to test characters, learn mechanics, and hone their abilities. Moreover, MultiVersus may be played via the following modes: custom online lobbies, The Lab (practice mode), tutorials, 1 vs. 1 matches, 4-player free-for-all, cooperative vs. A.I., and local play matches that can accommodate up to four players.
Along with the constantly evolving Dexter’s Laboratory map and the City of Townsville map, which features the main antagonist of The Powerpuff Girls, Mojo Jojo, players can also explore other locations such as the Batcave (DC), Tree Fort (Adventure Time), Scooby’s Haunted Mansion (Scooby-Doo), Sky Arena (Steven Universe), and others.
Every fighter in MultiVersus has access to a wide range of fighting techniques, as well as enhanced graphics and lighting that draw players’ attention to the characters and draw them closer to the action on screen. Additionally, the game makes use of a custom rollback netcode to facilitate matchmaking and online gameplay.
Superstars Mark Hamill (Batman: Arkham videogame series, Batman: The Animated Series), Kevin Conroy (Batman: Arkham series, Batman: The Animated Series), Tara Strong (Batman: Arkham series), George Newbern (Injustice 2 videogame) as Superman, Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Arya Stark, Matthew Lillard (Scooby-Doo) as Shaggy, Estelle (Steven Universe) as Garnet, and numerous others are among the top talent lending their voices to MultiVersus.
