Kelly Rowland clashes with Cannes red carpet usher after being taken upstairs.
Rowland was present for the premiere of “Marcello Mio,” which is one of the works that is being considered for the festival.
On Tuesday night, Kelly Rowland seemed to reprimand an usher on the Cannes red carpet after being hurried up the stairs by festival personnel.
Rowland was attending the festival’s competition premiere of “Marcello Mio,” when she walked up the red carpet and stopped to pose for the horde of cameras.
One usher can be seen on camera calling to Rowland twice, perhaps signaling for her to begin up the steps at the Palais des Festivals.
Three additional black-clad ushers emerge around the Destiny’s Child actress, forcing her to the right of the stairwell and forming a barrier on one side.
to one point, the singer turns to indicate to someone in the crowd behind her, and two more ushers come from behind with their hands out to block her view and push her up the stairs.
With a smile, the singer touches the usher’s outstretched arm to let her know it’s not necessary, then makes her way carefully up the stairs. A woman wearing a black suit, one of the ushers, continues extending her arm pretty close to Rowland’s back.
Turning back to face the usher, Rowland seems to reprimand her, but she continues to keep her arm aloft and spread her fingers quite close to his back. As Rowland comes down the stairs and into the Palais, the usher tries the same on a woman who seems to be accompanying him.
The red carpet rules, which include a dress code, are well known for being strict. It used to be stated that women couldn’t walk the Cannes red carpet unless they were wearing heels, but when the event received backlash in 2015, this rule was lifted.
Cannes similarly implemented a red carpet selfie ban in 2018. Officials said that the embargo was put in place to accelerate the flow of people entering the Palais.
Additionally, those who remain too long are moved on. A regular visitor to Cannes, socialite Lady Victoria Hervey reportedly received an order to move in 2013 for waiting too long to pose for photos on the red carpet outside the Palais.
A spokesperson from Cannes chose not to reply. As of the publishing, Rowland’s delegates had not furnished a response.
