Mandisa, a singer who won a Grammy and rocketed to popularity on the fifth season of “American Idol,” has passed away, according to a statement released by her representative on Friday. 47 was her age.
A representative for Mandisa sent a statement to NBC News in which they confirmed that the lifeless body of Mandisa was discovered at her residence the previous day. “At this time, we do not have any additional information or knowledge regarding the cause of death.”
“We ask for your prayers for her family and close circle of friends during this extremely difficult time,” the statement added. “We are saddened by the news regarding her passing.”
According to The Tennessean, her body was discovered inside the residence she occupied in Nashville.
In an early Friday morning post on the artist’s Facebook page, the following statement was made: “Mandisa was a voice of encouragement and truth to people all around the world who were facing the challenges of life.” This song was written by her for a close friend who had died away in the year 2017.
It is best expressed in her own words. I have already arrived at my destination; you must put it down because Jesus is holding me at this very now; and I am not alone.
After finishing ninth on the season of “American Idol,” the singer, whose full name is Mandisa Lynn Hundley, soared to fame due to her incredible performance. She went on to win a Grammy Award in 2014 for her album “Overcomer,” which was awarded for being the best contemporary Christian music album.
Originally hailing from Sacramento, California, Mandisa spent her childhood singing in church. She went on to study vocal performance at American River College and then completed her education at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, as stated in the artist bio provided by her record company. Immediately following her graduation from college, she began her career as a session and backup vocalist for a number of artists, including Shania Twain and Trisha Yearwood, before she competed on “American Idol.”
The singer said in an interview with “Good Morning America” in 2017 that she had experienced a severe depression in 2014 and had come dangerously close to ending her own life as a result of the passing of her close friend Lakisha Mitchell, who had been battling breast cancer.
