After three months of being married on television, “The Golden Bachelor” Gerry Turner and his wife, Theresa Nist, made the announcement on Friday that they are going through with a divorce.
“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation and so forth and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion, mutually, that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage,” Turner, 72, stated during an interview on “Good Morning America.”
After meeting each other during the fall of the previous year on the inaugural season of “The Golden Bachelor,” a spinoff of the long-running dating reality show “The Bachelor” on ABC, the couple tied the wedding in a ceremony that appeared on television in January.
Nist, who is 70 years old, expressed gratitude to the supporters for their support.
“I don’t think we can tell you how many people told us that it gave them so much hope,” she remarked in response. “We want none of that to change for anybody.”
Turner and Nist did not disclose the circumstances that led to their breakup, although they did indicate that they had difficulty selecting where they would live. A former restaurateur from Indiana, Nist is a professional in the field of financial services, and Turner is a retired restaurateur from New Jersey.
In November, the couple disclosed to Juju Chang of ABC News that they had intended to make South Carolina their permanent residence.
