On Thursday, a jury in New York found Donald Trump convicted of all 34 counts in a plan to unlawfully influence the 2016 election via a hush money payment to a porn star who claimed that the two had sex. This made him the first former president of the United States to be convicted of criminal crimes.

In the corridor on the 15th level of the courtroom, where the judgment was disclosed after more than nine hours of deliberations, Trump sat with a stone-faced expression as the ruling was read.

Another topic that is more knotty is whether or not Trump, who is a convicted criminal, could vote for himself. It is likely.

The Republican National Convention is set to begin in Milwaukee four days before Trump’s sentencing, which is set for July 11. Although unlikely for a first-time offender, it is theoretically possible that Trump could get jail time.

With two felonies to his name, Trump convicted in this is anticipated to file an expedited appeal of the decision, which will create a difficult situation when he rejoins the campaign trail. He plans to do fundraisers the following week, but as of right now, there are no scheduled campaign rallies.

The charges of falsifying business records carry a maximum sentence of four years in prison. However, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg would not comment on Thursday regarding the prosecution’s intention to seek imprisonment. It’s very improbable that Trump’s appeal rights would run out before Election Day, even if the court decided to try to sentence him to jail. That may be a different picture if Trump was, in some way, found guilty in one of the two federal criminal charges filed against him before to Election Day.
