Adopted daughter in the Netherlands reunited with sister in Montreal and mother in Colombia, 40 years later
With the use of a DNA test and a Zoom connection, a mother and her two kids were able to reconnect online. This was accomplished despite the fact that they lived on three different countries and spoke different languages. They were reunited by the grace of God.
There is a sister called Xiomara, and Diana Angarita has always been aware of the fact that she resides in Montreal.
Carmen Angarita, her mother, often talked about her, despite the fact that Diana had never met her and Carmen had only known her briefly when she was a baby, which was more than four decades earlier.
“Actually, she was always talking about Xiomara that I felt jealous,” replied Diana in response. It was because we were unable to meet her that she was not present.
Despite the fact that I was unable to be reunited with her when I was a youngster, I was always aware that she was around. It is true that she does exist, but she was unaware of my existence.
The adoption of Xiomara was arranged by her mother before to the birth of her daughter.
Carmen spent her childhood in Bogota, Colombia, as an orphan. Xiomara was born to her in 1981, when she was 34 years old and dealing with a precarious financial condition. She became pregnant at that time. Carmen was aware that she needed to make a difficult choice since her kid was experiencing health problems.
“I didn’t have an option to raise her and had to choose,” the mother, who is 74 years old, said to CTV News from her home in Bogota.
The fact that Xiomara had been adopted by a loving family in the Netherlands brought Carmen some measure of consolation; nonetheless, she continued to yearn for her.
“I really missed her,” she conveyed to me. “I was very sad when I had to give her up for adoption.”
In the following two years, Carmen gave birth to Diana, and she raised her daughter as a single parent. Three years ago, Diana relocated to Montreal, and her husband gave her a MyHeritage DNA kit and app (opens in a new tab) as a birthday present. This gift completely altered the lives of Diana and her whole family.
Diana was able to locate her sister who was residing in the Netherlands thanks to the app’s capability of displaying probable DNA matches finally they were reunited. The pair had intended to pursue an investigation into Diana’s heritage.
“I had in my mind that it was so hard to find her,” replied Diana in response. “It was like a fairy tale, like a dream come true, something that you do not [not] have in mind because you believe that it is so difficult to obtain. It was like a dream come true.”
The experience was, if I may use the word, amazing. It’s hard for me to believe that we are reunited. Something like that is beyond your ability to believe.
Diana immediately started looking for methods to get in touch with her and get reunited when she discovered her name, Xiomara Schuuring.
When I discovered her, the app claimed that she was my half-sister, so I said, ‘Oh my gosh.’ I am a little bit of an impetuous person to begin with. Find my sister, I want to get reunited . “This is not a dream!” Diana said. “I sent her a text message. As a matter of fact, I began to like stalking since I began searching for this person everywhere on Linkedin and Facebook.
In a short amount of time, the two joined forces and arranged a Zoom call with their mother.
There is a video that Xiomara created to introduce herself.
In the video, Xiomara can be heard saying, “I am your daughter, and I hope to see you and your family very soon.” “I’m very, very glad that I know now that you are alive and you always think about me.”
Xiomara also disclosed to her mother that she is the mother of a boy called Joaquin who is 17 years old.
In her words, “I was very happy,” Carmen stated. When I was happy, I nearly burst into tears. Finding out that I also had a grandchild was a really nice experience for me. It had been a very long time since I had last seen her.
When it comes to languages, Carmen is fluent in Spanish, Xiomara is bilingual in Dutch and English, and Diana is fluent in English, Spanish, and French.
On the other hand, Xiomara disclosed to her sister that she is now learning Spanish with the objective of expanding her language skills prior to the three of them meeting in person.
When compared to the blessing of finally seeing her sister, Diana’s difficulties in communicating are nothing to be concerned about.
It seemed like the most amazing day of my whole life. “Thanks to my husband, it turned out to be the single best gift I’ve ever received,” she remarked.
During the month of December, the two sisters want to go to Bogota to visit their mother and celebrate Christmas together.
